Kraus Genealogy(last update 02 Sep 2006) These pages document the history of the Kraus family from Jacob Kraus who was born about 1805 in the Kingdom of Baden. Jacob arrived in the United States via the Port of New York in 1830. He settled in Pennsylvania then migrated to Indiana after the Civil War and finally to Johnson County, Arkansas. It is our intent to, through this page, share the results of our research and facilitate the exchange of information among Kraus researchers. With your help we hope to make this as complete a history of this family as possible. Latest BreakthroughFamily Bible found! Thanks to the efforts of Judy Archer, copies of pages from the bible owned by Millie Myrtle [Kraus] Archer have been found in the possession of Wayne Archer. The transcription of this document has allowed us to identify all 13 of Jacob and Anna's children with their exact birth dates, birth places and - for many - death and marriage information. Good work Judy! Research ReportsOutline Descendant Chart - Nine generations, 635 individuals, 228 families, indexed, 21 pages, 71.8kb, Adobe PDF format, updated 28 Dec 2005. Most WantedMany unidentified photos have been found and placed in the Kraus Family Photo Album that were taken in the early 1900's in Peru, Indiana; Parsons, Kansas; and Kansas City, Missouri. If you have any information on Kraus families from those areas please get in contact with us. Post cards have been found from Sadie Mae Kraus of Cass County, Indiana to Gwennie Kraus of Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas. The text references visits from Indiana to Arkansas. Sadie is the daughter of Jacob S. Kraus who was born Jun 1858 in Pennsylvania. He is found, listed as a nephew, in the home of Edward Henry Kraus, in 1880. His mother's name was Amelia. Amelia married Joseph G. Hogentogler about 1870, probably in Cass County and lived in Peru, Miami County, Indiana. Photos taken in Peru have also been found. Her first husband, Kraus, either died or divorced before that marriage. He is presumably a son of Jacob Kraus and Anna Maria Steiner. The most likely candidate is William Louis Kraus born 1831. The only record found regarding William is the bible record of his birth. It does not appear that he is in Jacob Kraus' home in the 1840 census so he was presumed to have died before the age of 10. So who is the first husband of Amelia and father of Jacob S. Kraus? Family ReunionThe descendants of Edward Henry Kraus meet at Spadra Park in Clarksville, Arkansas, third Saturday in May. This reunion is followed on Sunday by the Annie's Chapel Cemetery Decoration Day. Allied Family Lines
AcknowledgementsOur Kraus line is relatively obscure and I have only a few other researchers and descendant seriously pursuing it. Alice Ann (Kraus) Ferguson has contributed heavily to the effort in the form of oral family histories. Her memories go far to keep our Kraus ancestors alive.
