First Generation
John Watson [25165]
was born about 1728 in Straban Township, York County (now Adams), Pennsylvania,
and died March 1802 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He married Ann
Anderson about 1759 in Straban Township, York County (now Adams),
Pennsylvania.
Children of John Watson and Ann Anderson are:

Pennsylvania; died 1840 in Will's Creek, St. Clair (now Etowah) County,
Alabama.

unknown] McCray.

unknown].

Research Notes. In 1892 John's great
grandson James B. Watson attempted to become a member of the Cherokee Nation
claiming a relationship to the Cherokee Forked Tail Watts. In doing so he
stated that his name was James B. Watts. James' second cousin Nancy Jane
(Watson) Rust filed an affidavit in Scott County, Arkansas in support of
James' claim. In that affidavit she stated that the father of John Watson (b.
1756) was Forked Tail Watts. This appears to be inaccurate as John is named in
his father's, John Watson (b. c1728), will in Rutherford County, North
Carolina. It is possible that she missed a generation and that the father of
John Watson (b. c1728) was Forked Tail Watts, though some researchers believe
that this John's parents were Thomas Watson and Theodocia Lovelady.
