First Generation

John Watson [25165] was born about 1728 in Straban Township, York County (now Adams), Pennsylvania, and died March 1802 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He married Ann Anderson about 1759 in Straban Township, York County (now Adams), Pennsylvania.

Children of John Watson and Ann Anderson are:

  1. John Watson, born about 1756 in Straban Township, York County, Pennsylvania; died 1840 in Will's Creek, St. Clair (now Etowah) County, Alabama.
  2. Jenny Watson, born 1762.
  3. Philadelphia Watson, born about 1764. She married [first name unknown] McCray.
  4. Sawncy Watson, born about 1766.
  5. Obediah Watson, born about 1768. He married Sarah [last name unknown].
  6. Matthew Watson, born between 1768 and 1770.
  7. Joseph P. Watson, born about 1772. He married Cathann Harris.
  8. William Watson, born about 1774; died 1846 in St. Clair County, Alabama. He married Bethany [last name unknown].
  9. David Watson, born about 1776.

Research Notes. In 1892 John's great grandson James B. Watson attempted to become a member of the Cherokee Nation claiming a relationship to the Cherokee Forked Tail Watts. In doing so he stated that his name was James B. Watts. James' second cousin Nancy Jane (Watson) Rust filed an affidavit in Scott County, Arkansas in support of James' claim. In that affidavit she stated that the father of John Watson (b. 1756) was Forked Tail Watts. This appears to be inaccurate as John is named in his father's, John Watson (b. c1728), will in Rutherford County, North Carolina. It is possible that she missed a generation and that the father of John Watson (b. c1728) was Forked Tail Watts, though some researchers believe that this John's parents were Thomas Watson and Theodocia Lovelady.
