Children of Coleman Smith Horner and Mahala Catherine Harris

1. James Elbert Horner [5826] was born 1 May 1833 in Hope Hill, Gibson County, Tennessee. He died. 6 March 1904 in Bogata, Red River County, Texas. James married  (1) Nancy Catherine McCollough, daughter of James McCollough on 17 June 1856 in Hempstead County, Arkansas. She was born 8 July 1838, Itawamba County, Mississippi and died 6 September 1876, Bogata, Red River County, Texas. James worked as a carpenter at the outbreak of the Civil War. James served the CSA during the Civil War in Company B of the 6th Arkansas Infantry. He was wounded in the foot at the Battle of Shiloh. He also took part in battles at Murfreesboro, Missionary Ridge, Ringfold, New Hope Church, Kenesaw Mountain, Peachtree Creek and Atlanta where he was wounded in the thigh. Immediately after the war the family migrated from Columbia County, Arkansas to Red River, Texas and joined Nancy's father James who had migrated earlier from Hempstead County, Arkansas. He was a farmer in 1870 and worked as a wagon-maker; then taught school for a number of years and finally went into merchandising. He was a Justice of the Peace for seven years, postmaster at Bogata, and also served as Deputy Sheriff. He was appointed Postmaster of Bogata on 7 February 1881 and served until 1 December 1893. He was again appointed Postmaster on 19 January 1899 and served until his death. He was a Free Mason and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a charter member of John C. Burke's  Camp #656 of United Confederate Veterans, formed in the summer of 1890. After Nancy's death James married (2) Sally B. [last name unknown]. After James' death Sally filed for a Confederate Widows Pension (#22915) in Red River County, Texas.

  2. Mary Horner, born about 1860 in Arkansas.
  3. James Horner, born about 1862 n Arkansas.
  4. Edward Horner, born about 1866 in Arkansas.
  5. Nancy Horner
  6. Catherine Horner
  7. Annie Horner, born 3 February 1871, Bogata, Red River County, Texas, died 23 July 1938; married Sidney Harris Lowry, born 30 August 1865, died 13 August 1948. Both buried in Bogata Cemetery, Red River County, Texas.
