JAMES
JASPER
AKARD [1504]
was born 7 July 1838 in Polk County, Missouri, and died 31 December 1919. He
was only seven years old when his father died but he took hold of the farm work
and regularly made a crop every year. He attended the district school, when
there was any and he could spare the time. When the Civil War began he promptly
enlisted in Company A of the 8th Missouri State Militia Calvary Regiment to
fight for the Union. Near the end of the war he was commissioned as Colonel of
the 17th Regiment. After the war he was elected for two terms to represent Polk
County, Missouri in the State Legislature. He also held the county offices of
Collector for two terms, Sheriff, County Clerk and Presiding Judge of County
Court. He owned and operated a flower mill at Fair Play then moved to Bolivar
where he owned and operated another flour mill for over twenty years. He died,
still doing that work, at the age of 80 years. He married KEZIAH
ADELINE (last name unknown) on
11 May 1873 in Polk Country, Missouri. She was born 11 September 1847 in Polk County,
Missouri, and died 2 November 1925 in Polk County, Missouri. James and Keziah
are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri.

5 February 1911. She married PEYTON
SAMUEL
MARSHALL, son of Benjamin Alfriend and Nancy Marshall on
19 January 1860 in Polk Country, Missouri. He was born 18 May 1829 and died 7
September 1885. Both are buried in the Benjamin Marshall Cemetery, Cedar County,
Missouri..
