JOSEPH DELL AKARD
[4292] was born about 1812 in Tennessee. He was raised in Tennessee
and Illinois. When he left home he settled in Ohio in 1833 then moved on to Polk
County, Missouri by 1837 where he married KEZIAH DUNNEGAN on 7 October 1837. She was born 16 August 1817 in Polk County, Missouri, the fourth
daughter of William Dunnegan and Rhoda Griffin. They lived out
their lives in Fair Play, Polk County, Missouri; he died 1846 leaving her with
four small children. Keziah died 18 May
1885.

AKARD [1510] was born 13 August 1813 in Tennessee, and died 1849 in Polk County, Missouri.
He married LAVINIA JONES in September 1832 in
Polk County, Missouri. She was born 1815 in Polk County, Missouri. He became Baptist minister, and for years one of the leading ministers of Polk
County. He established various churches and preached in (Cedar, Greene, Union and
Henry counties.

9. WILLIAM C. C. AKARD
[4298] was born 1826 in Tennessee, and died 1870 in Dallas County, Texas of Typhoid
Fever. Akard street in present-day downtown Dallas is named after him. He married SARA
CATHERINE BOWEN 28 August 1853 in Polk County, Missouri. She was
born about 1829, the daughter of Ahab Bowen and Mary Lyon Easley and died 24
January 1925. After William's death she remarried to A. C. DANIEL.
She is buried in Oakland Cemetery , Dallas, Texas. Their home was on the current
site of Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas.

[4300] was born 19 August 1832, and died 2 February 1883 in Polk County, Missouri. He married MARY
E. JACKSON on 21 January 1864 in Cedar
County, Missouri, who was
born about 1835. Served the Union during the Civil War, enlisting as a Sergeant
in Company D of the 8th Missouri State Militia Cavalry Regiment . John worked for Remington Arms Company in
Missouri as an inventor and marksman, and at the one time was the Shooting Champion of the World.
John died 2 February 1883 in Polk County, Missouri.
