4. Melinda Jane Hill [819] was born March 1850 in Friley, Johnson County, Arkansas, and died 1901. She married Dr. John Henry Davis, son of Sebern Davis and Joannah English. He was born August 1845 in Arkansas, and died 20 December 1902. They are both buried in Beech Grove Cemetery, Franklin County, Arkansas.

Children of Melinda Hill and John Davis are:

  1. Joseph Sebring Davis, born 20 January 1867; died 10 December 1925. He married E. Dosha Spicer; born 07 February 1867; died 02 February 1901.
  2. George Hopkins Davis, born 1869. He married Liza Hill.
  3. James Monroe Davis, born 1871. He married Mary Ellen Rose.
  4. James S. Davis, born about 1876.
  5. Jasper Newton Davis, born 27 June 1876; died 27 October 1888.
  6. Martha Jane Davis, born about 1878; died 1945. She married (1) Samuel Lowe. She married (2) Joe Floyd.
  7. Cyrus Davis, born December 1878.
  8. Columbus Davis, born February 1885. He married Amanda Dickerson.
  9. Joan Anna Davis, born 20 February 1886; died 06 August 1950. She married Issac Gabbard 10 September 1903 in Coal Hill, Franklin County, Arkansas; born 30 May 1881 in Cass, Franklin County, Arkansas. Both buried in Beech Grove Cemetery; Franklin County, Arkansas.

5. Christopher Columbus Hill [1907] was born 10 January 1851 in Friley, Johnson County, Arkansas, and died 5 February 1936 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma. Columbus was a successful farmer and blacksmith and a very thrifty person in his younger days. He did drink whiskey, but later in life he quit. He married (1) Martha J. Henry on 18 July 1869. They lived with his brother Jasper in 1870. She was born 1852, and died 03 September 1870 in Johnson County, Arkansas. He married (2) Laura Caroline Lane on 25 January 1872 in Madison County, Arkansas, daughter of Garrett Lane and Lear Wood. She was born 4 December 1853 in Arkansas, and died 1933 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma. Laura liked bright colored clothes and jewelry, some said even gaudy clothes. She was a hard women to get along with she didn't care if she thought you were wrong her favorite word was "bullshit." She even told her son Preston that "he went with all butterflies and married a turd." Most of her grandchildren were afraid of her. She always set her table after she washed the dishes so that it was ready for the next meal. She did no work or cook on Sunday. They only milked the cows. Columbus was elected Sheriff of Madison County, Arkansas and served from 1884 to 1888. In 1900, during the Cheyenne-Arapoha Run, he brought 2 one-quarter sections of land running 2 to 3 miles from east to west of Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma from Henry C. Mott & GM brothers for $1,500.00 and moved the family there. The railroad that ran from Arkansas east to west across Oklahoma ended at Weatherford, Custer County, Oklahoma. The train crew switched the box car with most of the family possessions such as livestock, furniture, poultry, implements, etc. on a side track. His son John unloaded the boxcar and hitched horses to the loaded wagons and drove a distance of about 40 miles to the farm which was about 3 miles east of Rocky. There were no roads or bridges, only trails. He had to ford the Washita River on the trail from Custer, Oklahoma to Cloudchief, Oklahoma. The ford crossing was known as Big John crossing which was 200 to 300 yards south of what is now the Custer-Washita County line. All of his children bought or rented farms within a 10 mile radius. He dictated the living conditions of his children both single and married. This included ownership of farms, what and how much farm products to plant and harvest, ownership of implements, livestock, and transportation each owned. In 1920 he was elected State Representative from Washita County and moved to Cordell, Washita County. When his term was over in 1916 he moved to Rocky. In 1918 he lived in town but later moved back to the farm. He married (3) Able Patterson on 20 October 1934. She was born 1865, and died 1939 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma. Columbus, Laura and Able are all buried in Lone Star Cemetery, Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma.

  1. Amanda Sopha Hill, born 19 November 1872 in Madison County, Arkansas; died 26 July 1954 in Roosevelt, Kiowa County, Oklahoma.
  2. Martha C. Hill, born 25 March 1874 in Madison County, Arkansas; died 16 November 1935 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma.
  3. Emaline Hill, born 27 February 1876 in Madison County, Arkansas; died 29 March 1876 in Madison County, Arkansas. Burial: Loy Cemetery, Madison County, Arkansas.
  4. Joseph Garrett Hill, born 23 June 1877 in Madison County, Arkansas; died 08 January 1969 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma.
  5. John Columbus Hill, born 20 September 1879 in Kingston, Madison County, Arkansas; died 21 January 1968 in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.
  6. Eliza Jane Hill, born 21 May 1882 in Madison County, Arkansas; died 13 December 1936 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma. She married Emory B. Smith; born 26 October 1882; died 31 October 1951 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma. Both buried in Lone Star Cemetery, Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma.
  7. Thomas J. Hill, born 28 March 1884 in Madison County, Arkansas; died in Hobard, Kiowa County, Oklahoma.
  8. Albert Jasper 'Jake' Hill, born 01 January 1886 in Kingston, Madison County, Arkansas; died 09 June 1929 in Hobert, Oklahoma. He married Emma Maggie Jackson Blackstock 1907 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma; born 23 December 1890; died 03 February 1990 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma. Jasper committed suicide, he was dying of Syphilis.
  9. Jefferson D. Hill, born 18 May 1888 in Madison County, Arkansas; died 10 July 1891 in Madison County, Arkansas. Burial: Loy Cemetery, Madison County, Arkansas.
  10. Enos Preston Hill, born 01 January 1890 in Madison County, Arkansas; died 01 February 1948 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma. He married Fruzie McGuire; born 29 November 1897; died 25 June 1993 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma.
  11. Bulah B. Hill, born 01 June 1895 in Madison County, Arkansas; died 09 July 1907 in Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma. Bulah is buried in Lone Star Cemetery, Rocky, Washita County, Oklahoma

6. Lucinda Hill [1905] was born about 1854 in Arkansas, and died 16 April 1935. She married Joseph Warren Stewart, son of William Stewart and Louisa Swift. He was born 16 July 1853 in Arkansas, and died 22 April 1925.

  4. Hardenia Jane Stewart, b. 4 Jun 1892, d. 5 December 1899, Montague County, Texas. Buried in Old Spanish Fort Cemetery, Montague County, Texas.

8. Amanda C. 'Mandy' Hill [4217] was born 5 August 1859 in Yale, Johnson County, Arkansas, and died 26 April 1937 in Yale, Johnson County, Arkansas. She married John Samuel Acord 1874 in Johnson County, Arkansas, son of Francis Acord and Elizabeth Horner. He was born 1 December 1856 in Friley, Johnson County, Arkansas, and died 20 March 1928 in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas. They are both buried in Kendall Cemetery, Johnson County, Arkansas.

Children are listed under John Samuel Acord.
