Children of Charlotte Ring and William McCord

4. Joseph W. McCord [2053] was born on 10 June 1839 in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas and died on 21 September 1913 in Hurley, Stone County, Missouri, at age 74. Joseph married Martha Catherine 'Mattie' McCurley, on 31 May 1864. Martha was born 1850 in Mississippi and died 15 February 1922. Joseph was a private in Company K of the 10th Arkansas Militia. Joseph and Margaret were buried in Parsons Cemetery, Otto, Stone County, Missouri. They do not have grave markers but their plots are surrounded by cement edging.

  1.    Mary C. McCord was born about 1875.
  2.    William R. McCord was born about 1877.
  3.    Jennie B. McCord was born about 1879.

6. Dr. Thomas Jefferson McCord [3089] was born on 4 March 1843 in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas and died on 18 November 1919 at home, Galena, Stone County, Missouri, at age 76. Thomas married Nancy A. 'Nannie' Carr, daughter of Frank M. Carr and Martha Baker, on 14 January 1872 in Stone County, Missouri. Nancy was born in 1854 and died in 1957. Thomas was one of the most important factors in the industrial, commercial and financial growth of Stone County, as well as being a prominent physician of Galena for many years. His boyhood years were spent on his father’s farm in Arkansas, remaining there until he was about 17 years of age. He had very little education, only attending school about six months when the Civil War began and he ran away from home and went to Springfield, Missouri, where he joined the First Arkansas Union Infantry as a Hospital Steward.. He remained in the Union Army throughout the war. After the conflict was over he went to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he worked his way through college, continuing his studies until 1868 when he graduated. He went directly to Galena, Stone County, Missouri, where at one time he owned practically the entire town, having acquired the land on which the town is now located. He was a member of the Southwest Missouri Medical Association since its organization. At one time he owned 1,500 acres of valuable farm land in Stone County. On 8 November 1870 he was elected Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Court of Stone County. In 1889 he organized the Bank of Billings of which he was president for a number of years. In 1905 this institution was merged with the Bank of Galena. Thomas and Nancy were buried in Galena Cemetery, Stone County, Missouri.

  1. Fred McCord was born 14 February 1876, died 1 May 1963 and was buried in the Crane Community, Stone County, Missouri.  It is believed that Fred married Lillian Kerr who was also buried in the Crane Community..
  2. Charles C. McCord. Charles married May A. Kennedy.
  3. Vennie McCord. Vennie married Eli Ashcroft.
  4. Roy G. McCord.
  5. Thomas J. McCord was born 28 June 1894, died 14 June 1960 and was buried in Galena Cemetery, Stone County, Missouri.

8. Sarah Elizabeth McCord [23188] was born in 1845 in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas. Sarah married John Franklin Harkreader, son of Samuel Harkreader and Nancy M. Hardgrave. John was born about 1842 in Alabama; died about 1896 in Oklahoma and is buried in Sallisaw, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma.

Children from this marriage were:

  1. Francis E. Harkreader was born about 1858.
  2. Josiah Harkreader was born about 1867.
  3. Dicey Harkreader was born about 1869.
