Child of Robert Horner

1. John S. Horner [1395] was born 2 March 1792 in Orange County, North Carolina, and died between 1830 and 1839. He married Mary Leathers on 31 October 1815 in Orange County, North Carolina, daughter of Moses Leathers. She was born 13 January 1796, and died 21 August 1882. In 1850 Mary and several of her children lived in the household of her son John in Orange County.  In 1870 Mary lived with her son Moses in Orange County along with her daughters Mary and Lucy. John and Mary are buried in Mt. Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Durham County, North Carolina.

Children of John Horner and Mary Leathers are:

  1. John C. Horner, born 16 August 1823, Orange County, North Carolina; died 22 May 1903, probably Durham County, North Carolina; married Elizabeth Thompson, 12 July 1839; born 23 April 1823, North Carolina; died 29 May 1903, probably Durham County, North Carolina.
  2. Mary A. Horner, born 11 November 1826, Orange County; died 19 August 1920. Burial: Mt. Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Durham County, North Carolina. Her grave marker reads, daughter of John C. Horner but this is believed to be in error. Never married, lived at home with her mother in 1880 and with her sister Lucy in Durham County in 1900 and 1910. Worked as a stringer of tobacco bags.
  3. Martha Horner, born about 1830 in Orange County, North Carolina.
  4. Moses W. Horner, born July 1831 in Orange County, North Carolina; married Clementine Johnson on 16 November 1865 in Orange County, North Carolina; she was born November 1835 in North Carolina.
  5. James S. Horner, born about 1834 in Orange County, North Carolina.
  6. Robert Horner, born about 1837 in Orange County, North Carolina.
  7. Lucy Ellen Horner, born 15 March 1839 in Orange County, North Carolina; died 25 August 1913. Burial: Mt. Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Durham County, North Carolina. Never married, lived at home with her mother in 1880 and with her sister Mary in Durham County in 1900 and 1910. Worked as a stringer of tobacco bags.

Research Notes. John S. Horner may have been enumerated in the household of William Copely on page 213 of the 1850 Orange County census at the age of 68 with with the occupation of blacksmith.
