2nd Arkansas Infantry Regiment, USA
Organized at Springfield, Missouri, and Fort Smith, Arkansas, October 1863
to March 1864. Primary recruitment places Johnson, Sebastian and Yell Counties in
Arkansas. Organization completed at Fort Smith on 13 February 1864. Attached to District of
the Frontier, Department of Missouri, to January 1864. District of the Frontier, 7th
Army Corps, Department of Arkansas, January 1864. 2nd Brigade, District of the
Frontier, 7th Army Corps to March 1864. 1st Brigade, District of the Frontier,
7th Corps to May 1864. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 7th Corps, to December
1864. 1st Brigade, District of the Frontier, 7th Corps to February 1865. 1st
Brigade, 3rd Division, 7th Corps to August 1865.
The regiment conducted mostly guerrilla warfare in northwest Arkansas and
provided military escorts to refugees fleeing the state for the relative safety
of southwest Missouri. On 15 December 1863, his unit was the target of a
Confederate ambush which resulted in the only major skirmish inside Johnson
County, Arkansas during the Civil War. There were only two fatalities from this
fight, both belonging to Company A. They were George W. Chronister of Hagarville,
Arkansas and Lt. Hollingsworth from the state of Kansas.

September 1863 in Warren, Arkansas at the age of 43. He applied for an invalid's
pension in 1887. After his death, Elizabeth filed for a widow's pension. William
applied for an invalid's pension in 1887. His widow applied for a widow's
pension. Buried in Watson Cemetery , Johnson County, Arkansas.
Michael Marion Bean (1829-1907) of Johnson County, Arkansas. Private.
Son of John Bean and Elizabeth Awalt, husband of Emaline Elizabeth Mabray. Born

Anthony Casey (1826-1910) of Newton County, Arkansas. Private. Son of Jesse E. Casey and Martha
Coe, husband of Mahala Celia Self. Born in Tennessee. Enlisted on 2 September 1863 at Jasper,
Arkansas at the age of 40. He was in St. John's Hospital at Little Rock,
Arkansas with pneumonia from 1 May 1864 to 1 June 1864 and in Small Pox hospital
at Little Rock from 5 June 1864 to 1 July 1864. He was discharged on 8 September
1865 at Clarksville, Arkansas. In 1877 he filed a claim with the Southern Claims
Commission and was compensated for a mare, corn and oats furnished to Union
Troops. Anthony applied for and was awarded an invalid pension August 9, 1887
stating that as a result of the pneumonia he contacted during the war he had
lung damage and that the small pox had affected his eye sight.
Wesley A. 'West' Casey (1841-1864) of Newton County, Arkansas.
Private. Son of Jesse E. Casey and Martha Coe, husband of Salutee Woodward. Born
in Newton County, Arkansas. Enlisted on 1 January 1864 at Clarksville, Arkansas
at the age of 24. Reported deserted at Clarksville, Arkansas on 1 April 1864.
Died of pneumonia in Clarksville, Arkansas on 27 May 1864. His widow remarried
to Samuel Nicholas and applied for a widow's and minor's pension in 1872.

July 1863 after serving only three weeks. Enlisted on 29 March 1864 at
Clarksville, Arkansas at the age of 21. Died of measles in camp at Lewisburg,
Arkansas on 31 July 1864. His mother applied for a pension in 1879.
Lewis Cass Horner (1848-1923) of Johnson County, Arkansas. Private. Son of John Turner Horner and
Susannah Boen, husband of Jemima Kasiah Melson. Born in Johnson County,
Arkansas. Enlisted 20 March 1864 at Clarksville, Arkansas at the age of 18.

Died of measles in camp at Lewisburg, Arkansas on 4 Aug 1864. His mother applied
for a pension in 1879.
William Riley Horner (1834-1864) of Johnson County, Arkansas. Private. Son of Spencer Horner and Permelia
Turner, husband of Mary Ann Boen. Born in Perry County, Tennessee. Enlisted 6 December 1863 in Clarksville,
Arkansas at the age of 28. Mustered into the service on 19 February 1864, at
Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was killed by bushwhackers at his father's farm near
Catalpa, Johnson County, Arkansas on 10 August 1864. It is not clear if he was
on scouting duty or absent without leave. Buried in Moore Cemetery ,
Johnson County, Arkansas. His wife applied for a widow's and minor's pension in
1865.
William Bowman McDaniel (1845-1913) of Johnson County, Arkansas. Private-Corporal. Son of James Carrol McDaniel and Harriet J. Hester, husband of
Elizabeth L. Ogilvie. Enlisted on 14 December 1863 at Clarksville, Arkansas at
the age of 18 and mustered into service on
19 February 1864 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. On 30 June 1864 he was reported "sick
in quarters." Mustered out on 8 August 1865. After the war he served as Deputy
Sheriff of Johnson County, Arkansas. Applied for a US pension on 6 January 1908.
