Note: John is John Samuel Acord son of Francis Marion Acord and Elizabeth Horner. Amanda is Amanda C. Hill daughter of  Joseph Hill and Emeline Jones. Elizabeth is Elizabeth Jane Acord. Robert is Robert Caroll Acord. Some researchers state that Ella was born on September 12, 1886 not April 1898.  It is also stated that daughter Rosa was born July 8, 1898 though she does not appear in this census. Both Ella and Rosa could not have been born in 1898. Rosa's grave marker indicates the 1898 date. This researcher believes that the April 1898 date is correct and that Rosa was born after June 13, 1900 (the start of the enumeration of this census). Mary is believed to be Mary Newton Acord daughter of Thomas Newton Acord and Martha Loretta Kozier, though her mother was born in Tennessee not Texas.

SHOOTS WIFE AND SELF

Claude Dickerson slays his young wife near her home at Oark and turns gun on himself.
A double tragedy occurred near Oark last Friday morning about 10 o'clock, when Claude Dickerson, a young farmer living near here, shot his wife to death after which he turned the weapon on himself, dying 2 hours later. The couple had been married some three years and were the parents of one child, but their brief period of married life ended in a disagreement a few weeks ago after which the husband left for Oklahoma and his wife returned to her parents, Dr and Mrs. C.P. Patterson of Oark and had been engaged in teaching school near the home. Dickerson returned from Oklahoma last Friday however, and inquired for his wife and on being told that she was at the schoolhouse,  set out to meet her.
He was seen near the road by an acquaintance who hailed him at which Dickerson displayed a revolver and bade his friend to move on. He met his wife a short distance from the village of Oark where the tragedy occurred. The pistol shots attracted the attention of nearby residents who found the two in the dust. The wife was outright, but Dickerson lived several hours though not regaining consciousness. He is reported to have been 21 years of age and his wife 19.

1929: Cedar County, Missouri Newspaper Article - Judge J.M. Akard

The son of Henry and Lavina Akard who were married in Tennessee coming immediately to Missouri where their six children, two boys and four girls, were born. This couple were pioneers of this section living for months in their wagons until log cabins could be erected. Some of the Kickapoo Indians were yet here at the time, two Indian girls coming to the cabin to see their first white woman. It took brave hearts and stout courage to make a home under the surroundings in which they lived and the children of such parents developed into sturdy, fearless, self reliant, man and womanhood.
